Russia was the 25th largest donor of official humanitarian assistance in 2011. Russia's GNI donation was equal to 0.03% of Russia’s gross national income (GNI) in 2011. Russia's GNI rank in 2011 was 10 out of 214 countries. 25.4% of Russia's donations were spent in fragile states. 11.8% of their donations were spent in countries that were long term recipients of humanitarian assistance. The total amount of their GNI donated was USD 479 million. This was probably due to the fact that Russia's economy had such a boom and expansion, so they were able to contribute so much of that year's income to the foreign aid. However, the U.S. contributed 23 BILLION dollars to the foreign aid. This still is below 1 percent of the GNI of the U.S. This is probably because that so much more people in the United States are employed than Russia. Also the income is higher so the U.S. is able to donate more.
